Come the month of July and Earth turns green… Dark cloudy skies embrace various parts of the country and bright greens make everything look fresh and breezy. Cool winds keep the mind happy and heavy rainfalls let the hearts fly. Monsoons are one of the most favorite season all across and it also marks the start of Shravan or Saawan month.
Saawan is one of the most auspicious month in the Hindu Calendar. During this month, the Nakshatra Shravan is the ruling Star on full Moon day and therefore this month has been named as Shravan. As such, this entire month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and worshipping him during this month is said to bring most Auspicious results and blessings of Lord Shiva. Many people observe fast for this entire month and make offerings to Lord Shiva everyday. A large number of people get various Pujas for Lord Shiva performed during this period which gives very auspicious results as per our ancient texts and scripts.
In this month, each Monday is celebrated as Shravan Somvar across all temples with the Dharanatra hanging over the Shiva linga, bathing it with holy water and milk, throughout the day into the night. Devotees offer Bael leaves, flowers, holy water and milk, i.e. Falam-Toyam, Pushpam-Patram to lord Shiva on every Shravan Somwar. They fast until the sun goes down and the Nandadeep, the Akhand Diya, burns throughout.

Last year in Oct we went for a wedding to Delhi and one of the days was Ekadashi. The hotel had prepared so many fasting snacks all using buckwheat flour. I love the earthy taste of it. A tasty share for the theme Kriti.
