When we think of food we have hundreds of things available and thousands of recipes in our mind.. Especially in today’s era when no cuisine is far off and from morning till evening you only see beautiful food pics all across Facebook and Instagram. 🙂 Food is a religion and it rules the World. Be it Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian or any other cuisine, people simply love it or at least want to explore it. There were days when Chinese food meant only Chowmein (that too it was available only in 3 stars or 5 stars restaurant) and Pizza was considered as some dish from abroad. But now, these global dishes have become a story of every household. Thanks to the TV and thanks to the internet. 🙂

I am a big time explorer and I love to check out various vegetarian recipes from the Globe. Out of hundreds of cuisine available, my personal favorites are Indian, Chinese and Italian. Infact, I should say Asian and European cuisine are my must try food every time. 🙂 Chowmein, Manchurian, Fried rice, Pizza, Pasta, Pies, Tiramisu, Soups and the list continues… 😀 This time our Foodie Monday theme is #FusionTheme which gave me a unique opportunity to club my cuisines love and come with something new…extremely new and innovative. After lot of thinking, I decided to merge my 2 love – Chinese from Asian cuisine and British from European Cuisine.
When I talk about Chinese cuisine, all I can think off is – Perfect green crisp vegetables, Garlic, Soya Sauce and Vinegar. When I talk about British Cuisine all I can imagine is Tarts, Pies, Puddings, Cakes, Breads and Butter. I carefully selected two beautiful dishes of Chilly Mushroom from Chinese cuisine & Pie from European cuisine and came up with a unique Fusion dish – Chilly Mushroom Pie.
Chilly Mushroom Pie is fusion recipe created with beautiful amalgamation of Chilli Mushrooms, prepared in authentic Chinese way and layered generously with Cheese, and Pie crust. The pie is baked till perfection in the oven and the end product comes out to be a gorgeous Chilli Mushroom Pie. 🙂
Let’s have a look on the recipe.
Preparation time: 30 mins
Baking time: 25 mins
For Chilly Mushrooms
- 1 Pack Mushrooms – Cleaned and Sliced
- 1 cup Red bell pepper – Sliced
- 2 tbsp Garlic – Grated
- 1 tsp – Ginger
- 1 tbsp Soya Sauce
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 1 tbsp Chilly sauce
- 1 cup spring onions
- Grounded Black Pepper
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1.5 cup cold butter – Diced
- Salt – as per taste
- 2 tbsp Ice water
- 2 tbsp Kidney Beans
Small Tart tins
First let’s knead the pie dough and let it rest. Till the time it will be ready to use, we will be done with all our preparations.
For Pies: Take all purpose flour in a bowl and add salt. Mix well. Now add diced butter and mix it well using your fingers. Don’t use any spoon or ladle to mix. Do it with fingers as it will make sure that every bit of flour has a buttery flavor to it. After 5-1o mins, you will start noticing crumbled texture of the flour. Dip your fingers in cold water and keep mixing it lightly. Once the dough is kneaded, it will be rough crumbled dough, cover it in a cling film and let it rest in fridge for 30 mins.
Take it out post 30 mins and Roll it out. Arrange it on the tart tin. Make sure you press the corners with thumb to make it stick in perfect shape. On the base, make impressions with fork. This will make sure that the dough will not rise during baking. Now, spread kidney beans over the top and bake well till 15 mins at 150 degrees.
Let the tarts cool down before removing them from the mould.
For Chilly Mushrooms: Heat a wok. Add ginger and garlic. Saute well. Add sliced Mushrooms and stir fry on high flame. Add bell peppers, soya sauce, vinegar, chilli sauce and black pepper powder. Add salt. Close the flame. Chilli Mushroom is ready. Sprinkle spring onions and keep it aside.
Arrange Chilly Mushrooms over the baked tarts. Make alternate layers with Mozzarella cheese. Cover the top with the dough ( design it as per your choice).
Bake again for 10 mins and take them out.
Your Chilli Mushroom Pie is ready. Savor them hot and fresh!
This dish will surely takes you to the World of China as well as Europe.
