Lunch at Britannia & Co. Restaurant, Mumbai

Recently, I was travelling across Mumbai and got a chance to visit an exclusive old Parsi Restro Britannia & Co. which is serving people with pride since 1923. This place is Historic, Iconic and one amongst the last few remnants of Heritage styled Irani – Parsi cafeteria.

The place is owned by an old yet young and handsome guy Mr.Boman Kohinoor (Age 95 years) and now in the able hands of the third generation, still whipping up food influenced by the family’s Iranian and Parsi roots.
The staff is again pretty old and seems that they are a part of Britannia past many decades. The ambiance is pretty vintage like and immediately captures our mind as in what would have been the culture and tradition during British era.

Not much, the Kohinoors say, has changed; including the Bentwood furniture imported from Poland during the eatery’s early years. The timings of the Cafe is still as those of early eras 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. Yes, I was also surprised.

Now comes the food. Three words – Authentic – Traditional – Delicious 🙂

Since I was quite full I didn’t got a chance to try much but I did try Veg Cutlets which were served with crisp wafers and gravy. Along with it I ordered fresh Raspberry Soda and Caramel Custard. Berry Pulao was on the list but considering the heavy snacks decided to skip it and try it on next visit.

Cutlets were crispy outside and soft inside. With the filling of veggies wrapped up in tomatoes and parsi spices, it was worth ordering. It’s accompaniments, the authentic parsi gravy along with crisp wafers was a must try. 🙂

The Caramel Custard came as a scrumptious treat and it’s delectable taste just carried me away.

Ambiance and Food was already ruling my mind when Mr.Boman Kohinoor came on our desk personally and started asking us about our life in Delhi etc etc. He showed us the letters / postcards/ pictures which he received from Queen Elizabeth, and other members of British Royal Family, appreciating the cafe and the tradition they are carrying out past more than 90 years.

The zeal and the enthusiasm which this young lad has, trust me, not even 1% of our generation have this kind of polite and inspiring attitude. In my 2 hour of visit to Britannia & Company, this guy inspired me  and gave me a reason to carry up the cooking and serving more enthusiastically.
Kudos Mr. Boman Kohinoor…You have made my first Mumbai trip really memorable! 🙂 ‪#‎MumbaiDiaries‬ ‪#‎TravelToMumbai‬
