SweetsInBox – The Online Halwai

Gone are the days of those Sunday mornings when the whole family sat together to enjoy those crispy jalebis, gulab jamuns,pethas, laddoos etc  from regional shops, karare samoses dipped in meethi chutneys and what not. Now it’s all about having hurried breakfasts followed by a piece of english sweets like muffins and cupcakes.

Being a core Indian by heart, I as well as my husband is born and brought up at Allahabad, UP. It is the city famous for the scenic amalgamation of three rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati at Sangam along with some authentic food like ladoo and samosas! 🙂

We both were used to having a grand gala meals at home but due to college, job and marriage, since the time we shifted to Gurgaon ,we literally miss those days. Here in big cities there are few typical mithai shops but the issues are with the long distances, traffic jams, and sky high prices. As a result we end up with whatever we find at our grocery stores.

Being a food blogger, I was searching for some specific food products online when I came across SweetsInbox and the thing which attracted me towards itself was it’s tagline ‘ The Online Halwai ‘ 😀 Immediately a smile popped up and my joys seemed no bounds. I was like Wow… I was expecting some exclusive delicious sweets and namkeens as cooked in our hometowns and to my utter enthusiasm I came across their menu which displayed – DalMoth , Agra Petha, Rasogulla, Dry Fruit Chikki, Anjeer roll and what not! 🙂 I was on the seventh heaven and was rejoicing when came across the super exclusive Chocolate Modaks. 

As Ganesh Chaturthi is approaching and Modak being the favorite dish of Ganesh ji.. I was looking for it from sometime but was unable to find some unique modaks which can be used for workship as well as for our treats. 😀 I decided to give these Chocolate Modaks a try. Ordered 1 single box along with few other diet snacks and started waiting for them to get delivered.

I got the orders with 2 days of placing the same and guys, trust me, the packaging and the delivery was literally superb. I was bit skeptical initially about the sweets being delivered through courier but the way it was packed, it was superb. It was a small pack of 21 pieces costing at Rs. 151 (Discounted prices) and trust me, the deal was excellent.

The Chocolate Modaks came quite intact in the 3 layer packaging and now comes the time to go gaga over the taste.

One bite and the word was – Droolicious! 🙂 It is basically a chocolate in Modak shape. With soft outer texture and smooth consistency along with exclusive taste, this Chocolate Modak made us crazy. 🙂

When I first looked at them, I thought it must be a regular modak just covered in chocolate color or shell. But no. It is a unique flavorful chocolate which will make all of you crave for it. 🙂 The size of the sweet is perfect both for the palette and waist. 😀

The one thing which I would suggest though is – Being launched on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and the business known by the tagline ‘ the online halwai ‘ , this chocolate modak could have been in the list of favorites of the older generation too.

The older generation being too attached with customs and rituals, always expect some traditional authenticity attached with a new innovative recipe of the festivals. May be an outer coating of grated coconut or a filling of coconut and jaggery with the outer shell of dark chocolate could have served the purpose and gotta hit amongst all the Dadis , Nanis , Moms and Dads. 🙂

But nevertheless, for our generation which swear by Chocolates, it’s a hit one! 🙂 I am just going to order few packs today itself. Come along! 🙂
